Jhandewalan Temple

Jhandewalan Temple is a very old temple that is dedicated to the avatar of Durga Goddess, Maa Aadi Shakti. The temple is situated on the Jhandewalan road towards Karol Bagh in New Delhi. It is another popular and a respected shrine of Durga goddess. This temple receives several devotees from various parts of the world the entire year. The Jhandewalan name was given at the time of reign of Shah Jahan, due to jhandas or prayer flags being offered.

It is believed that Jhandewala was located once on mountains. When the place got excavated then goddess’s sanctum was descended and thus this temple got established on this place. It is also said that one of the devotee of Matarani, Badri Bhagat dreamed of her and he was told by her about the idol. After that the temple got constructed there. Jhandewalan Mata Ji’s original idol is at the ground level. It is amongst the popular religious site for the Hindus. Everyone can worship here and come irrespective of status and caste. It is echoes with night and day chanting of goddess mantras. All the devotees here are blessed with good health, peace and happiness.

People celebrate many festivals here. On Navratra and Durga Puja’s occasion, a special type of puja is held. The temple gets decorated with light and flowers. The spiritual environment of the temple gives a peace to heart and mind to all devotees.

  • Shringaar Aarti Cheele, Milk, Chane, Cocunut at 9:00 A.M

  • Bhog Aarti Rice, Roti, pulses at 12:00 P.M

  • Evening Aarti Chane at 7:30 P.M

  • Night Aarti Milk at 10:00 P.M

Offerings/ Prayers

  • The temple is open on Sunday and Tuesday and also on Astami afternoon.

  • On every Shukla Paksha Astami, there is Jagran (prayers offering throughout night) starting at 10 P.M.

  • Every day in the morning kirtan and havana(prayers) take place in the temple.
